Network Start Taking a Long Time

What factors affect the amount of time it takes for a NetworkStart operation to complete?

  • number of nodes
  • “complexity” of nodes?

I haven’t paid attention to this in a while, but at the moment, we’re seeing it take upwards of 20 seconds for the network to start. On recent instances, there have been only 1 or 2 nodes on the network.

What things could make this take so long?

The number of nodes could affect it but not by much and that doesn’t seem to be the issue here.

Is this a cold network start (discover topology->generate ENI->start network)
or a network start where nodes have been discovered and ENI pre-generated?
Discover and generation will add a lot of time to a network start but only need to happen again if you change the network topology.

We have seen slow network starts on some low powered PCs.
